Pressure is a Privilege
I have a client who has to step up to the plate right now. She has a choice to make and it’s now or never. She either has to choose to take action that is hard for her and makes her fear she will fail or she has to choose to not act in this particular scenario. It is a conscious choice that has consequences for her, whichever way she steps. Acting is by far the hardest choice in the short term, but not acting will be easier now, and much much harder later. I know she is ready. She doesn´t feel it yet.
Then this morning I heard a saying that Billie Jean King famously said that I would like to say to her. “Pressure is a privilege.” Why? Because if you are under pressure, it’s because an opportunity has come your way. And you can either rise to meet it or you can take the other road. No expectation, no pressure, no facing yourself. Is that the alternative? Are you prepared to live with a life of no highs and lows, no wins but also no loss, no resilience and no growth? How will that feel in 10 years? Or 20 years?
Pressure creates diamonds.
What’s the worst that can happen? Say you lose? Then what? Would your life end? Probably not. Would you learn and grow from the experience? Probably. Could you go back and try again? Definitely! That’s it. That’s the very worst. Can you live with that? Probably. Can you live with the flatness of never testing what you are capable of? You have to answer whether that´s something you want for your life.
That’s the choice we all get in life. Pressure makes diamonds.
Have a good week,Love Vanessa
