LIFE OF CONSEQUENCE
Sometimes you need to go to the end and look back to find your path
Last week someone I know died. Just like that. She was the same age as me and she was just going about her day. Not for a moment thinking this might be her last day. The shock of her passing has been enormous because she lived a life of consequence. Every day for her mattered. Because she was living and working in line with her values and beliefs.
And as a career coach, it has reinforced for me how important it is to work in line with our values and to believe in what we do. We spend so much of our adult lives working, so what we do in that time should matter to each of us. And at the end of our lives, how do we measure our impact on our world?
Have you ever thought about how you would like people to remember you? And what you would like to contribute to your world in the working hours you have ahead of you? A worthwhile career isn’t just a job. It’s making a difference. And there are so many many ways we can all make a difference. Finding out who you are and what matters to you should be at the heart of what you choose to do with your life. You don’t have to be rich or famous. Or then again, maybe you do. But whatever you choose to do, make it a life of consequence, whatever that means for you.
